June Prayer Flag - Willing Surrender
The colors for June’s prayer flag are shades of purples and yellows, as these are the prominent colors in my home landscape this month.
My June prayers began with thanksgiving. First was gratitude for the place I live. My husband and I are happy with the house and land we have called home for five years now. Each year we do a little more to bring our ideas to life. We are also very thankful for our small town and being a part of that. I’m also thankful for the creative people I’ve met and spend time with.
Other days have held prayers of concern for a family member and prayers for discernment for myself regarding a big decision.
By “prayers,” I mean a blend of conversation with God/Divine Mystery and inner dialogue with myself. They involve praise, questioning, imagining, and surrender. I can see that these are echoed in the stitching of the prayer flag itself.
Each flag is an enjoyable pursuit, yet I question whether I should use certain fabrics or not, knowing they will fade. In the end, I surrender, accepting that the flag will be transformed by the elements. This surrender echoes the faith that makes the act of praying fruitful. Learning to willingly surrender (read: this is my choice), allows me to let go and release things I no longer need to hold onto. Who knew how helpful this prayer flag project would be for me?
