Finding Water: The Art of Perseverance begins January 3, 2024 (Registration is Closed)

Creativity is exciting and exhilarating - most of the time. We can get discouraged and sometimes wonder if we should continue. Wouldn’t it be helpful to have a group to meet with monthly for the encouragement to keep going?

Join me in 2024 as I facilitate a yearlong discussion on Julia Cameron’s Finding Water: The Art of Perseverance.

In Finding Water, Julia Cameron offers guidance on weathering the periods in an artist's life when inspiration has run dry. This book, published in 2006, provides wisdom and tools for tackling some of the greatest challenges that artists face, such as:

  • Making the decision to begin a new project

  • Persevering when a new approach to your art does not bear immediate fruit

  • Staying focused when other parts of your life threaten to distract you from your art

  • Finding possibilities for artistic inspiration in the most unlikely places.

Each chapter is dedicated to uncovering the ingredients for optimism, reality, support, balance, autonomy, resolve, resilience, truth, perspective, safety, discipline and perseverance – all necessary for the continued creative journey in art and life.

Whether you are a writer, musician, visual artist, or other creative, the lessons and exercises in this book will encourage you to keep going.

Facilitated by Susan Ernst, artist and instructor

Registration is $75. Registration closes on January 5, 2024.

How it will work:

After registering, purchase the book, Finding Water: The Art of Perseverance by Julia Cameron

Read and do the exercises she provides on your own, one chapter per month.

We will meet monthly to share what we are learning from the lessons. These meetings encourage us to continue moving forward.

We meet on the 3rd Wednesday of each month from 2-4 p.m. Central time, beginning January 3, 2024.
